I’m a trial and error, process-driven painter, and so an investigation of the medium over time is the vehicle that allows me to find my subject. While the work is certainly a reflection of memory and direct visual experience, an undercurrent of meaning reveals itself over many painting sessions when the material substance of paint is transformed. I look for that moment when an image or a quality of light is present, and for the painting to become some thing or some space that I understand and find visually compelling. As a painter, I work toward that moment of recognition.
